Please pardon my slight meltdown yesterday. Thank you all for your support. I'm better now.
Now, back to regularly scheduled knitting!
Project: April Socks
Pattern: Basic 64 stitch socks
Yarn: Opal Sock Yarn in color 1213
Yardage: 1 ball (about 490 yards)
Started: April 14, 2007
Finished: April 25, 2007
Yarn Source: a present from the wonderful Courtney!
Needles: 2.5 mm (US 1.5)
Gauge: 8.5 stitches to the inch in stst
Modifications: This time I borrowed the pointed toe from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. These toes do not require Kitchener Stitch (the bane of my existence) and seem to fit my feet much better.
Back in January I had a crazy idea. I took a good look at my yarn stash (aided and abetted by Sparky's wonderful yarn inventory spreadsheet) and realized I had a hell of a lot of sock yarn. While I realize that many people have much more sock yarn than I do (I'm not naming names; you know who you are), I still had a lot of yarn. I decided that if I set myself a minimum of one pair a month, then I would be putting all of this sock yarn to its intended purpose. I dreamed of many pairs of socks all lined up neatly, a rainbow of colors and patterns. I dreamed of experimenting with all kinds of patterns and maybe, just maybe creating my own pattern.
Well, that was January and now it's April and the first flush of enthusiasm has worn off a bit. I have many balls of self-patterning sock yarn which tends to look best when worked in stockinette stitch. I'm also contemplating a move to somewhere that wool socks will play no part in my wardrobe.
I think I'm going to switch focus a bit and start knitting socks for people other than me. While most members of my family are not dedicated handknit socks fans, I'm going to do my best to convert them. The May socks will likely be for someone else.

Umm-- I wear an 8-1/2 wide.(Just in case you have to make a pair and you run out of recipients.)

And my dear husband adores handknit socks. He's trying to convert everyone he knows to handknit only.
Hmmm, someplace warm?
