So during my little break from the Circular Cardigan, I knit these.
Project: Log Cabin Socks
Pattern Source: Handknit Holidays
Yarn: Rowan Cork
Yardage: About 2.5 balls or 300 yards
Started: March 8, 2007
Finished: March 10, 2007
Yarn Source: Stash
Needles: 3.75 mm (US 5)
Gauge: 6 stitches to the inch in stst
Modifications: I eliminated the second cable on the heel flap, but otherwise as written.
I love knitting socks with patterns. I love the satisfaction of finishing a pattern repeat and knowing how far you have to go until you get to the heel (or toe, for that matter). These slipper-sock-things were the perfect cure for the miles (and I'm really not kidding here) of stockinette stitch involved in the Circular Cardigan. Best of all, these were super fast to knit. I finished the first one while I was home sick on Thursday and the second one was done by Saturday morning. Ahhh, the sweet smell of a FO. The pattern recommends blocking and I am thrilled that I did. Blocking completely transforms them. (yes, those are rubber duckie sock blockers)
Speaking of the Circular Cardigan
The body is off the needles and as of this morning, it's done blocking. After much deliberation thanks for putting up with it, honey), I decided to block the body before starting the sleeves. I didn't aggressively block it, but it still seems big. I temporarily sewed the sleeve holes together so that they wouldn't stretch too much and that seemed to work well. I'm starting the sleeves tonight.
And because the CC is WAY too big to carry around, I had to start another project.
These are the Monkey Socks from Knitty. I'm a bit worried about the length of the leg . There are about 4.5 pattern repeats here and I'm supposed to do six. I'm likely going to add an additional repeat just to be safe. I'm knitting them out of Fleece Artist in Parrot.
I'm going to post again tomorrow (guilty conscience, anyone) about travel details. Oh, and likely to whine about choosing knitting to bring traveling. Hope all is well!
P.S. Please pardon the craptastic pictures. I had a lack of natural light
