And here they are, the latest in my ongoing (I hope) sock-knitting plan
The February Socks!
Project: February Socks
Pattern: As with the January Socks, I sort of made it up as I went along, relying heavily on the wisdom of Ms. Harlot
Yarn: Wolle Rodel 6-ply Sport Weight Sock Yarn
Yardage: about 400 yards
Started: February 1, 2007
Finished: February 16, 2007
Yarn Source: Wolle Rodel Store in Heidelberg, Germany
Needles: 3.25 mm (US 3)
Gauge: 7 stitches to the inch
Modifications: This was a pretty basic top-down 56-stitch sock.
Back at the beginning of February, I took a good hard look at the month and realized that it was going to be busy, this past week in particular. Realizing that A) I had at least 3 work-related guests and numerous work-related events a head of me and B) February is a short month, I decided to break out the heavy sock yarn so that I wouldn't break my "pair of socks a month" resolution two months into it. Wolle Rodel produces pleasant, standard sock yarn that wears well and comes in a dizzying array of solid and self-patterning colors. The store where this yarn came from is on the picturesque main street (hauptstrasse) of the truly lovely city of Heidelberg. I discovered the yarn store on my first visit to Heidelberg to visit Sparky many years ago and the store has been supplying me with sock yarn ever since. Let it be known that Germans take their sock yarn VERY seriously. The selection of weights, blends, colors, and patterns are incredible.
These socks, while by no means quite as lovely or soft as others I've knit, are sturdy, warm, and perfect for boots. The colors sort of remind me of vintage appliances. Must be the avocado stripe.
I'm actually knitting and I owe you all a progress report on all sorts of things. I also have one more FO to share, but I'll leave you in suspense until tomorrow!
